In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, ultra-strong legendary monster Necrozma gets some fancy, familiar new forms. The upcoming Nintendo 3DS games’ latest trailers introduce two versions of the Pokémon, which look a lot last year’s starring pair of legendary Pokémon.
Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon feature Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dawn Wings Necrozma, respectively. Both Pokémon appear to be a combination of the eponymous monster and Solgaleo and Lunala, who we know from Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. These forms of Necrozma even have the same typing as Solgaleo and Lunala, so consider these to be some souped-up takes on Sun and Moon’s most recognizable legendaries.
Each monster will have a new, unique Z-Move, the strong special attacks that are activated using special items. Dusk Mane Necrozma can use Searing Sunraze Smash, while Dawn Wings Necrozma has Menacing Moonraze Malestrom.
But let’s get to why we’re really here: The Rotom Dex, the cute sentient Pokédex that was a friendly omnipresence in Sun and Moon, now gets its own special Z-Powers. If you befriend it — which, duh, of course you will — the Rotom Dex will be able to assist teams in battle and grant access to new features, including the Roto Loto, which doles out useful items and even Pokémon Eggs.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are shaping up to diverge from Sun and Moon in more ways than we expected. The games launch Nov. 17.
