Pokemon Go top 10: Strongest Pokemon added in the Gen 2 update

While many Pokemon Go players are simply happy to have more Pokemon to catch, competitive players just want to know which of the new Pokemon will give them an edge in gym battles. Thankfully, The Silph Road has updated its comprehensive species stats table to include the new Pokemon. Using the data from that chart, we rounded up the ten strongest Pokemon added to Pokemon Go in Gen 2.

There are multiple ways to sort Pokemon on The Silph Road website, but for this list, we’ve decided to focus on the best product of stats. In other words, while Heracross might have a higher attack value than Steelix, Steelix is a more well-rounded choice for gym battling. Sort by other metrics over at The Silph Road.

10. Scizor


Type: Bug/Steel | Max CP: 2,801

Desired Move-set

Fast – Bullet Punch – DPS: 10.7

Charge – Iron Head – DPS: 39.5

Scizor has a body with the hardness of steel. It is not easily fazed by ordinary sorts of attacks. This Pokémon flaps its wings to regulate its body temperature.

9. SlowkingSlowking

Type: Water/Psychic | Max CP: 2,482

Desired Move-set

Fast – Water Gun – DPS: 12.5

Charge – Psychic – DPS: 44.6

Slowking undertakes research every day in an effort to solve the mysteries of the world. However, this Pokémon apparently forgets everything it has learned if the Shellder on its head comes off.

8. AmpharosAmpharos

Type: Electric | Max CP: 2,695

Desired Move-set

Fast – Volt Switch – DPS: 6.5

Charge – Thunder – DPS: 52.1

Ampharos gives off so much light that it can be seen even from space. People in the old days used the light of this Pokémon to send signals back and forth with others far away.

7. EspeonEspeon

Type: Psychic | Max CP: 3,000

Desired Move-set

Fast – Confusion – DPS: 11.9

Charge – Future Sight – DPS: 55.6

Espeon is extremely loyal to any Trainer it considers to be worthy. It is said that this Pokémon developed its precognitive powers to protect its Trainer from harm.

Charge – Hydro Pump – DPS: 49.2

Feraligatr intimidates its foes by opening its huge mouth. In battle, it will kick the ground hard with its thick and powerful hind legs to charge at the foe at an incredible speed.

5. Heracross


Type: Bug/Fighting | Max CP: 2,938

Desired Move-set

Fast – Counter – DPS: 13.9

Charge – Close Combat – DPS: 54.4

Heracross charges in a straight line at its foe, slips beneath the foe’s grasp, and then scoops up and hurls the opponent with its mighty horn. This Pokémon even has enough power to topple a massive tree.

4. Steelix


Type: Steel/Ground | Max CP: 2,439

Desired Move-set

Fast – Iron Tail – DPS: 12.1

Charge – Earthquake – DPS: 41.7

Steelix lives even further underground than Onix. This Pokémon is known to dig toward the earth’s core. There are records of this Pokémon reaching a depth of over six-tenths of a mile underground.

3. Donphan


Type: Ground | Max CP: 3,022

Desired Move-set

Fast -Counter – DPS: 11.1

Charge -Earthquake – DPS: 41.7

Donphan’s favorite attack is curling its body into a ball, then charging at its foe while rolling at high speed. Once it starts rolling, this Pokémon can’t stop very easily.

2. Tyranitar

Type: Rock/Dark | Max CP: 3,670

Desired Move-set

Fast -Bite – DPS: 12.5

Charge -Stone Edge – DPS: 54.4

Tyranitar is so overwhelmingly powerful, it can bring down a whole mountain to make its nest. This Pokémon wanders about in mountains seeking new opponents to fight.

1. Blissey

Type: Normal | Max CP: 3,219

Desired Move-set

Fast – Pound – DPS: 9.6

Charge – Hyper Beam – DPS: 49.3

Blissey senses sadness with its fluffy coat of fur. If it does so, this Pokémon will rush over to a sad person, no matter how far away, to share a Lucky Egg that brings a smile to any fact.
