Thanksgiving 2017 update reveal, Niantic quell Harry Potter worries

Niantic has confirmed that they will be making a new Pokemon Go event and features announcement next week.

The development team confirmed the news via a blog post, revealing that they will make a big reveal on what’s coming next to the popular AR title.

It comes with the added incentive that Niantic is looking to placate Pokemon Go player worries that the new Harry Potter game could become a top priority at the studio.

“Just like many of you, we’re super excited about Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and are working hard with our partners at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, and WB Games San Francisco’s development team to bring that to life,” a message from Niantic explains.

“However, we–the Pokemon GO development team–want to say that we are 100% committed to creating an ever-changing and growing game that gets our players exploring, meeting each other, and deepening their connection to the Pokémon universe.

“We’re actively expanding the Pokemon Go development team to build much more amazing features in 2018.

“Stay tuned for an update next week on upcoming improvements to certain features.”

Fans are hoping that one of the big new features will be some kind of social media functionality, following the news that Niantic has just acquired a new startup based on that premise.

The Evertoon team will “bring with them a wealth of talent and experience in mobile products, tools for creativity, and community building,” with their own app shutting down later this month.

It’s also expected that the Pokemon Go team will reveal news about a returning Thanksgiving event soon too.

Last year saw a Thanksgiving celebration launched on November 23rd and lasting until November 30t.

The event provided double the amount of XP and Stardust when completing in-game actions, and fans are hoping for something similar in 2017.

There are also rumors that a new Legendary Pokemon could be launched alongside the upcoming Thanksgiving event.

Ho-Oh recently saw its CP values and stats nerfed in the master game files, which is something that has happened before nearly every major Pokemon release.

It would also coincide closely with the latest rotation of Legendary Pokemon currently available to catch in different regions.

A Ho-Oh release may also help to bridge the gap between the launch of the new collection Gen 3 Pokemon, which are expected to start arriving in December.

It’s unclear if an announcement for Thanksgiving will be made alongside whatever new features Niantic are hoping to reveal in the next week.

Last year, the event wasn’t announced until November 21, although, it wouldn’t be surprising if Niantic wanted to make the reveal a little earlier this year.
